3 Independent sustainable fashion brands you need to know
As you know, we're pretty hot on sustainability at Virgo & Co. and that's why we love discovering and supporting other independent British brands, who are bringing you products which are better for our planet. I've made some wonderful new discoveries of late and wanted to take the opportunity to share them with you!
Sustainability crafted, chic summer dress.
Cat Turner is a British brand offering effortless, summer chic, dresses. They are beautifully made, flattering and incredibly versatile ensuring they will make you both look and feel fantastic!
The dresses offer a classy casual look, perfect for so many different occasions. Whether you're looking for cute hot summer day outfits, a working from home outfit or summer evening looks, these chic boutique dresses can be easily dressed up or down to suit lots of different occasions.
The brand prides itself on using premium, summer-friendly fabrics - together with sustainable fabrics like Linen and Tencel - so that women not only look good but feel good in the sun.
It has a beautiful range of cotton summer dresses in a variety of styles, my favourites being the red and white striped dress with tie shoulder details and classic midnight blue dress pictured below, which both evoke French Riviera chic!
The icing on the cake is knowing that Cat Turner's ethically made dresses are carefully crafted by expert teams in London, supporting British craftsmanship.
A sustainable jewellery brand that takes design inspiration from ingredients.
Little by Little was started by two friends, Annabel Cox and Georgina Fuggle. Before starting the brand they worked as an ethical jewellery designer and food writer respectively. The idea was born, over coffee, dreaming of ways to do business generously and raise funds for charity whilst doing so (an ethos we love). The jewellery followed, a happy combination of the girls' passions.
Since its conception there have been four collections: The Seville, The Mustard Seed, The Wedge and The Pip. All have been made with sustainable gold, silver and glass, each have their own distinct identity and quality. The founders always wanted to use their jewellery to empower others and are proud to work with the charity, Luminary Bakery. With each piece sold they donate sufficient funds to enable a disadvantaged woman to train at the bakery for a day, and help build their career.
A fresh approach to handbag design.
Russell Russell is an Isle of Man based label designed by Sally Russell. The brand creates beautifully unique, leather accessories for people of any age, who are self-assured in their style choices.
Sally designs each bag with happiness in mind, hoping to bring joy into your life everyday. They are then handmade in England by skilled leatherworkers who specialise in using traditional techniques.
Their first collection has been designed with a minimal aesthetic in mind, because when you love something, you want to be able to use it all the time. They are soft and unstructured, with no base and no hardware, creating a simple and visually beautiful silhouette, which will fit effortlessly into your wardrobe.
You can take them to the gym, to the office or out to dinner. They can be worn in the crook of your elbow, over your shoulder, in your hand or folded into a clutch. They’re perfect for pretty much any occasion! My personal favourite is the Carmel and Merlot design pictured below.
